New Acacia Gardens album in progress

Acacia Gardens' upcoming CD will feature a mix of traditional music played on guitar and hammered dulcimer.

For a taste of the kind of music that might appear on the new CD, download and listen to Morrison’s Jig, a traditional Irish tune played by Acacia Gardens musician Adam Harris and recorded in his Goomalling Bakery Recording Studio.

What’s a hammered dulcimer?

According to Wikipedia a hammered dulcimer is “a stringed musical instrument with the strings stretched over a trapezoidal sounding board. Typically, the hammered dulcimer is set on a stand, at an angle, before the musician, who holds small mallet hammers in each hand to strike the strings. The word dulcimer is Graeco-Roman, meaning "sweet song"; it derives from the Latin dulcis (sweet) and the Greek melos (song). The dulcimer's origin is uncertain, but tradition holds it was invented in Iran (Persia) some 2000 years ago.

Fairytales

The new CD will follow up Acacia Gardens' Fairytales CD of traditional and medieval music played on harp and acoustic guitar that was released earlier this year. Fairytales, described by its listeners as very relaxing, sweet and soothing, is still on sale for $15 in Goomalling at the post office and Slater Homestead as well as in Northam at Café Yasou.

Adam Harris is available for live musical performances. For more information about Acacia Gardens or the Goomalling Bakery Recording Studio, please ring Adam on 0414 291 770 or email him at montunojack@hotmail.com.
