Local businesses support Avon Valley ladies golf event

29-07-2009
The Goomalling lady golf members are grateful for the generous support of businesses servicing the Avon Valley.

Goomalling Golf ClubThe Goomalling Golf Club will host the 2009 Avon Valley Ladies Golf Championships from Wednesday 12 until Friday 14 August. Golf is the major focus but there is also lots of friendship, food and frivolity. This year the Thursday evening meal theme is the swinging 60’s, and the ‘Oscar’ will be keenly contested on the Wednesday night. The members are most grateful of all the sponsorship that will ensure the three days are a great success.

There are five major sponsors for the event:

  • Specialised Tree Services. Randle Beavis is a keen golfer and is a great supporter of the Goomalling Golf Club and is also hosting a midweek event at Goomalling in September.
  • Gary Ashworth of Fuel Distributors of WA was quick to hand his cheque over to ensure the success of the tournament and the Goomalling Golf Club is keen to cement a partnership with his company.
  • Our local machinery, chemical and hardware dealer Greg Baird of Agserve Goomalling partnered with Goldacres to provide major funding. The Goomalling Golf Club can always rely on Greg’s assistance when they need to source funds for events and the Avon Valley Championships was no exception.
  • RB Motors, Terry Butt and family continue to support the golf club for these special events and on an ongoing basis.
  • Zacks Commercial Artists, Cheryl and Scott are well known around town because of the quality of the work they produce. They have enjoyed a long relationship with the Shire of Goomalling; this quickly extended to sporting clubs needing branded merchandise and the local business community.

The Club is also extremely grateful to Avon Valley Beef for supplying the steak for the Thursday evening meal; the new store in Midland is easily accessible for all our member clubs. Phil Eaton, Elders Real Estate Northam, was keen to support the club and wishes all participants a great three days. Rob Tinetti, Purslowe Tinetti Funerals is another Avon Valley business always ready to support local events and this tournament was no exception. Jeff from Newman & Brooks has very kindly donated $200 of vouchers and Toodyay Emporium has invited the Captains down to select the Marjory Young Veterans Winner and Runner-up trophies. Andrea Hardingham said "You could spend most of the day in this great shop so I hope the girls remember there are lots of busy bees to attend leading up to the tournament." Another shop that is very hard to leave is Goomalling's Whispers on the Terrace owned by Terri Chattaway who is also sponsoring the event. Whispers together with Jan & Barry Bywaters, Mortlock Haulage is sponsoring the 18 novelties for the 4ball event and Terri is also donating the 3 day raffle. Other donations for the raffles include beauty products donated by Renascence Beauty, Julie Chester donated Enjo cleaning products, Landmark Northam has donated cash and Lotterywest has donated 50 X $1 Scratchies.

Goomalling Golf ClubRoast Lamb is on the menu for the Wednesday evening meal and local Dorper producers Chris Schell and Anthony Chester are donating the lamb. The Goomalling Golf Club acknowledges and appreciates the support given to it by the local business community not only for this event but throughout the season.

The Avon Valley Championships is a great three day event well known for friendship, humour and some great golf along the way.

The event presents a fantastic fundraising opportunity for the host clubs and usually is a catalyst for clubhouse or course improvements, these of course would not be possible without the very generous sponsorship from the business community who can be proud of their investment in our clubs.
