The Goomalling Bike Plan 2020-2030 was adopted by Council at their special meeting on 29 April 2020. The plan highlights gaps in our current provision of shared path network compared to contemporary standards as well as other opportunities to enhance user experience.

Each of the seven shires along the Pioneers' Pathway have identified a site of local historical significance that tells a local "story". Funding has been received for new branded signage and interpretation depicting these stories along the Pioneers' Pathway self drive trail.

We are very disappointed to report that entire patches of the remarkable and rare Blood Spider Orchids have been dug up in the Konnongorring area. Sadly, it was not one plant but all of the orchids in the vicinity that were stolen without consideration of the consequence that we may never see these orchids again!

Recently, there have been a number of incidents including vandalism of the town hall and verbal abuse of Council staff running the youth activities. The incidents have escalated to a point where Council is now concerned for the safety and welfare of our staff. Therefore, it is with regret that we announce the suspension of youth zone services indefinitely.

National On-Farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate by the Department of Water and Environment Regulation, offers rebates for purchase and installation of on-farm stock water infrastructure. Water infrastructure purchased and installed after 30 June 2018 is eligible and can be claimed retrospectively.

Wendy Williams was one of the worthy recipients of this year’s WA Volunteer of the Year Awards winning the category “Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering”. The Federal Government has committed $70 million for the Wheatbelt Secondary Freight Routes (WSFR) through the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative. The WSFR project is a $500m, four phase investment priority plan between 42 Local Governments, creating a more reliable and safer road network and improve access for higher capacity vehicles.

The Avon Valley won the award for the Best Tourism Display at the 2019 Show. This was a great result for the region and after over a decade of exhibiting at the Show, a very exciting one.

Council was granted $108,500 under the Safer Communities Fund Round 3 Infrastructure Grants to install 19 solar LED security lights and 14 CCTV cameras to pathways, buildings and carparks within the Goomalling recreation hub precinct to mitigate the risk of opportunistic crime and to enhance visibility for users.

On 7 February 2019, Council acknowledged individuals who volunteer with Council and community groups across the district for their invaluable contribution to the liveability of Goomalling.

WA shutterbug Georgina Steytler’s stunning picture of wasps playing in the Goomalling mud has won the prestigeous Wildlife Photographer of the Year award. The shot shows industrious wasps, turning mud into balls to create egg chambers for their nests.

Shire of Goomalling was recognised for the successful youth event #GoomaTownFest in the 2018 Children’s Environment and Health Local Government Policy Awards ceremony, winning the category “Young People Making a Difference in Communities” for the second consecutive year.

Saturday 14 April we celebrated Youth Week WA with a series of activities to challenge, inspire and invoke a sense of euphoria that can only be felt when you’re getting messy. 64 young tributes entered the Hunger Maze, sacrificing themselves willingly to the onslaught of paint and goo.

GO Sustainable is a medium term project to transition Council facilities to renewable energy reducing power drawn from the grid. Council will carry out transition to solar pv systems over the next five years, targeting the highest consuming sites first.
