In order to complete the project the Shire of Goomalling has again submitted an application to the Department of Environment and Conservation for a permit to remove 0.55ha of native vegetation over 1.11km stretch of Bejoording Road of which requires an Offset Proposal* whereby Council replicates the trees removed in another location, Council intends to plant DER’s recommended rate of trees removed in its revegetation program.

Specification of trees to be removed includes a number of Salmon, York and White Gums plus some small Acacias as detailed in Council’s submitted Clearing Permit.

Clearing is expected to commence in February 2016.

Councils Verge Assessment Vegetation Clearing Assessment Report (14 pages) developed by Rod Munns and Ben Kirby is available on Council's website www.goomalling.wa.gov.au .

*Environmental offsets are actions that provide environmental benefits which counterbalance the significant residual impact of an activity, such as clearing native vegetation. Offsets are undertaken outside of the clearing area and should establish or maintain the native vegetation in a parcel of land. Offsets may include rehabilitation and revegetation or acquisition of land with a secure conservation purpose.
