A Dumbleyung farmer took delivery of some farming supplies sent from rural Victoria. The goods were sent to Goomalling, collected by the farmer, and taken back to the Dumbleyung farm. The farmer then discovered four hibernating queen European wasps hiding in the delivered goods. These queens have now been destroyed. As a consequence of this discovery, we will bey setting up a trapping grid around the towns in an effort to stop any potential establishment of EW in these regions. This will occur around December this year and will be monitored through to June/July 2023. Attached is some information on how the trapping surveillance works.

We are very disappointed to report that entire patches of the remarkable and rare Blood Spider Orchids have been dug up in the Konnongorring area. Sadly, it was not one plant but all of the orchids in the vicinity that were stolen without consideration of the consequence that we may never see these orchids again!

Recently, there have been a number of incidents including vandalism of the town hall and verbal abuse of Council staff running the youth activities. The incidents have escalated to a point where Council is now concerned for the safety and welfare of our staff. Therefore, it is with regret that we announce the suspension of youth zone services indefinitely.

National On-Farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate by the Department of Water and Environment Regulation, offers rebates for purchase and installation of on-farm stock water infrastructure. Water infrastructure purchased and installed after 30 June 2018 is eligible and can be claimed retrospectively.

The Federal Government has committed $70 million for the Wheatbelt Secondary Freight Routes (WSFR) through the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative. The WSFR project is a $500m, four phase investment priority plan between 42 Local Governments, creating a more reliable and safer road network and improve access for higher capacity vehicles.

Council was granted $108,500 under the Safer Communities Fund Round 3 Infrastructure Grants to install 19 solar LED security lights and 14 CCTV cameras to pathways, buildings and carparks within the Goomalling recreation hub precinct to mitigate the risk of opportunistic crime and to enhance visibility for users.
