Event Description
A severe thunderstorm across Geraldton and the wider mid-west region have caused a major power outage leaving thousands homes and businesses without electricity, with Western Power crews working under difficult conditions to restore supply as quickly and safely as possible.
The primary cause for our sites being off the air is because of loss of mains power.
There is impact to the following services:
- 725 fixed line telephony customers are unable to make and/or receive voice calls. Affected locations include but not limited to Australind, Beaufort River, Bibby Springs, Bindi Bindi, Bonnie Rock, Burakin, Calingiri, Cervantes, Coomallo, Darkan, Dowerin, Gidgegannup, Gillingarra, Gingin, Herne Hill, Holleton, Jurien, Jurien Bay, Jurien East, Kalannie North, Kondut East, Koojan, Koorda, Kununoppin, Margaret River, Maya East, Meckering, Miling, Mogumber, Moodiarrup, Moonyoonooka, Moora, Mount Madden, Mount Walker, Mount Walker South, Mundaring, Nabawa, New Norcia, Parkerville, Piawaning, Toodyay, Uberin, Wannamal, Warradarge, Wongan Hills East, Xantippe, Yallalie, Yerecoin;
- 41 ADSL services located in Dowerin are unable to establish an internet connection;
- 2,197 Telstra NBN voice and data services across multiple locations are unable to establish a data connection;
- A loss of 40 x 4G and 6 x 5G mobile base stations across 40 physical sites and overlapping coverage from other carriers may not be available for some sites. Affected locations include Arrowsmith, Badgingarra, Bindoon, Borden, Cadoux, Carnamah, Claremont, Dandaragan, Goodlands, Green Head, Jurien bay, Konnongorring, Langford, Manmanning, Marchagee, Miling, Moonyoonooka, Moora, Mount Horner, Mount Madden, New Norcia, Nilgen, Orange Grove, Piawaning, Ravensthorpe, Red Gully, Sawyers Valley, Stirling, Tampu, Walebing via Moora, Wannamal, Warradarge, Watheroo, West River, Wongan Hills, Wyening, Yerecoin. Due to the impact, the communities of Badgerin Rock, Bindi Bindi, Bindoon Training Area, Bonnie Rock, Cadoux, Dandaragan, Konnongorring, Koojan, Koorda, Kulja, Lake King, Lake Margarette, Miling, Mindarra, Minnivale, Mocardy, Mount Madden, Nambung, New Norcia, Newcarlbeon, Orange Springs, Quelagetting, Red Gully, Walebing, Warradarge. In the last 24 hours, 461 fixed line telephony, 61 ADSL, 1,590 Telstra NBN services, 10 community isolations and 37 mobile sites have been restored.
